LB 923

LB 923 was signed into law on April 22, 2014.

The bill requires all public school nurses, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, administrators, school social workers, and any other appropriate personnel receive at least one hour of suicide awareness and prevention training, beginning in the 2015-2016 school year.

The Department of Education, along with other stakeholders, will develop a list of approved training materials to fulfill the requirements of suicide awareness and prevention training.

The bill also creates the position of a State School Security Director, establishes concussion and brain injury recognition training and protocols, and requires schools to participate in tornado preparedness drills twice a year.
